Bluehost Speed Test Results
As we all know that for a fast website we need a good hosting provider. I know that Web speed also depends on some other factors too but we’ll discuss it in a separate tutorial.
For now, we’ll be discussing a good hosting provider that is Bluehost in our case.
So, to test the speed, I created a new dummy site and tested the speed and see how fast Bluehost really is.
My site was built using one of the WordPress default themes and also dummy content was imported to see the actual results.
I used Pingdom to test my website’s speed and got the following results without installing any plugin.
These results are without using any caching plugins or speed optimization process.
However, the speed test alone isn’t enough because this test site didn’t have a great deal of traffic.
To test how Bluehost servers would respond with increased traffic, we used a testing tool called K6 (formerly LoadImpact) to send virtual users (VU) to our test site.
This test indicates that if you’re trying to find a very fast website, then Bluehost is often an ideal fit for you.
It is also important to notice that we didn’t record any downtime during our testing.
As we have tested the website speed, Now let’s see how the servers will respond to a request or How much time does the Bluehost servers take to proceed to a request?
Customer Support
Another problem with Bluehost is excessive upselling. This is a company that loves to try to sell you on add-ons and upgrades, and there are a lot of areas where you flat-out need add-ons for full functionality. That is a problem if you are on a tight budget.
Refund policy
Bluehost covers its plans with a 30-day money-back guarantee. That means if you cancel within the first 30 days, you will get a full refund. If you choose to cancel after that, you won’t get a prorated refund for the period of your hosting term which you have not used. Domain fees are not refundable. I have not tried to get a refund with them yet so I cannot say how easy it is.
Bluehost Hosting Plans and Features
Bluehost offers a variety of hosting services for all kinds of budgets and businesses.
Let’s take a look at their services.
- Shared hosting: Shared hosting is the perfect way to start a new website with low traffic volume. In a shared hosting environment, your website shares server resources with other websites.
- VPS (Virtual Private Server) hosting: An upgrade to shared WordPress hosting, VPS hosting allows you to virtual dedicated resources in a shared environment.
- Dedicated hosting server: A dedicated hosting server for your website, means you will have all the resources of the dedicated server to yourself. The downside is that you will have to manage the server on your own.
- WordPress hosting: Their WordPress plans are designed specifically for WordPress powered websites. It is optimized to run WordPress and can even protect your WordPress site against common threats.
- WordPress Managed hosting: This is an all-in-one managed platform that scales to any demand your website has. All pricing plans for managed WordPress hosting through Bluehost include incredibly fast speeds, marketing tools, and multi-tiered security features.
- WooCommerce hosting: WooCommerce is the most popular eCommerce plugin for WordPress, it allows you to easily start an online store with WordPress. WooCommerce hosting offers you all the essential features to kick start your eCommerce store.
- Cloud hosting: A more reliable upgrade to the shared hosting plan. It allows you to utilize multiple cloud servers, allowing your website to automatically switch to a different server in case of a hardware failure or high traffic.
In each plan, you can install WordPress with a single click and it’ll also give you a control panel access where you can manage your hosting and create databases.
Bluehost has its own customized control panel which makes it easy for beginners to understand and work on.
Bluehost Shared Hosting Plan
A shared hosting Bluehost plan is hands down one of the easiest ways to get started building your site. You can start with the Basic plan for $2.95, which is good to create one site with 50 GBs of space. That’s generous when you consider they also include free CDN and a free SSL certificate.
You don’t even have to know what a CDN or SSL certificate does–enable them with one click to get a faster, more secure site.
You can choose that you need a one-year subscription, two years subscriptions, or three years subscription.
As you can see, Bluehost goes out of their way to personalize each tier, so they’re useful in covering what you need. I recommend you take some time to comprehensively look through each tier and its offerings to get the best deal according to your goals.
Bluehost VPS Hosting
These prices are in line with typical costs for VPS hosting industry-wide. The speed for the first two plans is 2 CPU cores, up to three and four cores for the top plan. You get 30GB SAN storage at the lowest tier, up to 120GB at the highest level. RAM ranges from 2 GB up to 8 GB. You get 1 TB of bandwidth at the Standard level, up to 3 TB at the Ultimate level. Each tier includes one domain. The Standard tier includes one IP address; you get two with the rest. Every plan is backed by 24/7 support and a money-back guarantee.
Bluehost Dedicated Hosting
The standout benefits of dedicated hosting are security, privacy, and even more control all around. If you know you’ll want the best of the best to host your site for scale and reliability, then a Bluehost dedicated hosting plan is the way to go.
Is your site growing rapidly? Do you see more traffic coming in day after day? Here’s where you’ll want to look into dedicated hosting, yet another reliable Bluehost plan.
To illustrate the power of a dedicated hosting plan, they start you off at a whopping 500 GB of storage space, 4 GB of RAM, and 5 TB of bandwidth for only $79.99 a month. This puts Bluehost as a premium contender in the market, even for their pricier hosting tiers.
Bluehost WordPress Hosting
Bluehost WordPress hosting plans looks the same as the shared hosting plan but at the end of 2018, they introduced a new hosting plan which is WordPress Managed Hosting Plan.
WordPress Managed Hosting Plan
These plans are quite expensive compared to their simple WordPress hosting and what some competitors offer (many hosts sell WordPress hosting plans at equivalent prices as general-purpose shared hosting plans).
Managed WordPress at Bluehost may be a big deal, however, and one among the company’s hottest services (with quite 1,000,000 sites hosted by the company).
The Pro plans are running on high-performance VPS and offer improved site speed.
The Build plan starts at $9.95 per month and it provides you all the basics for a professional website.
It includes 1 WP Website, 20 GB Web Storage, 200+ Global Edge Servers, Free SSL, Built-in High Availability, Staging Environment.
It is optimal for a traffics range of 50000 visitors per month.
It also Also Includes Jetpack Personal, Daily Scheduled Backups, Malware Detection and Removal, Domain Privacy + Protection, 30 Day Free Trial – Microsoft Email.
The Grow plan includes everything that a business needs to grow properly and build an audience.
This hosting plan is best for up to 150000 visitors per month and Web storage is up to 40 GB.
It includes JetPack Premium, Business Review Tools, Bluehost SEO Tools, 10 GB Video Compression, Blue Sky Ticket Support, and the Build plan Features.
The third plan is the Scaled plan which has advanced features for running an online store.
The main features of this plan are 500,000 Visitors/mo, 80 GB of Web Storage.
It comes with Jetpack Professional, Unlimited backups and restores, Paypal Integration, Unlimited Video Compression, Elastic Search, and Blue Sky Live Chat Support.
These are all excellent features, but still, you may be asking, “Why would I pay this much for WordPress hosting?” Bluehost plays a very active role in the WordPress community and has a core staff of developers. That means that Bluehost can offer first-class customer support and troubleshoot even complex problems which are unique to WP.
Breaking it down by traffic makes it easy to choose a managed WordPress hosting plan that’ll give you peace of mind and plenty of site uptime.
Bluehost WooCommerce Hosting
If you want to build an online store with WordPress and WooCommerce, it’ll be very much easy for you to choose from Standard and Premium plans.
For a store with a payment processing system that comes equipped with plenty of analytics and the ability to create basic store backups, then go with the Standard deal at $12.95 a month.
Your store might be a bit more complex than a simple storefront with your product listings. If you’re going to capture subscriptions or online booking and appointment scheduling, you’re better off with the Premium tier as a very reliable eCommerce option.
I’d say this is my top pick for a multifaceted online store with a lot of moving parts. I’d rather pay a bit more for all the Premium features instead of saving some extra bucks.
Bluehost Cloud Hosting
WIth Bluehost Cloud Hosting, you’ll get the following plans and features
